You can help children from the surrounding neighborhood engage in a full range of gardening activities that may include planning, planting, maintaining, and harvesting produce by using your teaching and gardening skills. Enjoy sharing your time, energy, and gardening and teaching talents. You will be in great company and surrounded by a beautiful garden.
*Class sizes range from 5-25 students. The primary age group is elementary school students between kindergarten and 5th grade. The Junior Master Gardener’s Curriculum is used along with other curriculum and support materials.
Focus on providing students with hands-on gardening and nature-related experiences
Lead students through the essential activities of the garden: propagation, planting, cultivation, and maintenance activities; utilizing vegetable beds, flower areas, habitat gardens, hoop house, compost area, and herb garden
Lead students in ecology-based activities
Be a positive role model and mentor to students in the outdoor classroom
Garden Site Support
Work individually and collaboratively to manage and maintain outdoor classroom program facilities and equipment (tool shed, tools, and all education materials belonging to Highland Youth Garden)
Assist garden volunteers in managing and maintaining the appearance of the garden

June through October: Elementary school classes and summer camp groups are held on Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 2pm
A passion for sharing your love of gardening with elementary age children
Experience with gardening and a desire to continue learning
Self-directed and outstanding character
A willingness to work with elementary age children - experience is helpful
Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills are useful
